Mission, Values & Vision

Mission

Founded in 1996, the mission of the Alaska Quiet Rights Coalition is to maintain and restore natural sounds and natural quiet on public lands in Alaska through advocacy and education for the benefit of people and wildlife.

Values

We value natural soundscapes.  We believe in the transformative nature of quiet places.  We believe everyone has an intrinsic right to quiet places.  We believe that natural sounds and natural quiet should receive the same consideration in public land management given to other socio-ecological values such as clean air and water, fish, wildlife, soils, vegetation, scenic beauty and wilderness character.

 Vision

We envision an Alaska in which all appreciate the benefits of quiet places and a significant proportion of public lands are quiet. Furthermore, we envision the Alaska Quiet Rights Coalition is valued as a trusted authority on quiet and a reasonable partner by both Alaskans and their land management agencies.
